Girl Scout Day at the Capitol Wednesday, May 7, 2008 |
Girl Scouts – Fox Valley Council Contact Person: Christie Paxton 630-897-1565
#107
This information includes a tentative agenda for the day’s activities, map and
registration form. Some details may be subject to change.
The day starts with a Girl Scout parade. Girl Scouts will be marching down
Capitol Street, beginning Capitol and 8th streets. The parade begins at 9:45
a.m. with check-in beginning as early as 9:15 a.m.. Capitol Street will be
blocked off for Girl Scouts, however, the Springfield Police will allow buses
and cars to drop-off at registration. (If you arrive after the parade, please
check-in at the First Aid/Lost & Found/Information table after the rally.)
The Girl Scout parade will take us directly to the Capitol. Our rally will start
at the Capitol between 10:30-10:45 a.m. By 10:30 a.m., legislators and
government officials and guests will be speaking and “cheering” the girls on!
After the rally with the legislators, the girls will be directed toward their
local legislators so they can personally meet them. We then encourage the girls
to tour the Capitol.
There are about 1,500 Girl Scouts expected to attend the rally. Each council or
troop leader must be responsible for their own girls, including their lunch and
transportation for the day. We are suggesting that the girls bring their own
sack lunch including a beverage as food service at the Capitol is limited.
No book bags are allowed in the Capitol and all adults must have a photo ID with
them. Girls are encouraged to use the stairs rather than the elevators unless
otherwise noted. You may only enter the Capitol from the North or West
entrances, not the front doors.
Girl Scout uniforms or shirts are appropriate attire. Troop signs/banners may be
used during the parade, but are not permitted in the Capitol.
The cost of the event is $3.00 per person .This includes a patch, rally
souvenir. There is an additional charge to tour the Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Library and Museum.
Registrations are due to Girl Scouts – Fox Valley Council by Friday February
29th. Use council event registration form to register.
Parking at the Capitol can be challenging. Please allow time to locate a space
and do not park in an area where it is posted that you will be towed, because
you will be towed and held responsible for any parking fees, parking tickets or
towing expenses.
