Dear Leader,
The Girl Scout - Fox Valley Council presents its Cultural Awareness Patch
Program. The purpose of this program is to understand and respect the
traditions, customs, lifestyles, and heritage of the various racial, ethnic,
religious and socioeconomic groups in American society. Our goal is to promote
positive attitudes toward all people through all Girl Scout activities -- with
this knowledge and experiences, comes understanding!
It is our hope that these activities will be only a starting point in your
troops effort to learn more about our friends and neighbors. Encourage your
girls to continue to learn and grow in their understanding of all people!
For the leader, this workbook has six sections to review and should at least
complete 6 requirements from each section to earn a patch. Step-by-step
instructions to follow along and filled with background information of each
culture's history, songs, food, entertainment, holidays, sports, games,
bibliography and program links to assist. Also contains a scout workbook for the
leader to make copies for each of her girls to complete and keep.
